Tom Daggett is an organist, conductor, and educator who holds the OBE Organ Outreach Fellowship at St Paul’s Cathedral, where he leads a music programme for thousands of London children. Tom is motivated by music’s transformative ability to bring people together, and has founded five children’s choirs, principally in inner-city areas. He established the Hackney Children’s Choir in 2014 and has a deep vocation to share music with people of all backgrounds. Tom held Organ Scholarships at Blackburn Cathedral and Lincoln College, Oxford, from which he is a prize-winning graduate in Music.
Niall Weir has been Rector of West Hackney since 2003 and has worked in various parishes across London since his ordination in 1983. He is a published song-writer and sings professionally with the choir of St Paul’s Cathedral. He is a trustee of the Rodolfus Foundation which seeks to make bursary payments to musically gifted yet underprivileged children to enable them to participate in the elite Junior and Eton Choral Courses. He is co-founder of Hackney Children’s Choir, with a passion to enable local and musically gifted children to experience the joys and disciplines of the English Choral Tradition.
Naomi Richards is a performer and educator who leads our Community Development as part of the Mayor of London’s ‘Young Londoners’ project, Hackney Choral. Naomi has a wealth of experience in engaging people of all backgrounds in the arts — particularly through her long association as a performer and workshop leader with STOMP. Naomi delivers our Monday Senior Choir sessions, and is based in St Paul’s West Hackney.
Ginny Strawson has been working for Hackney Music Service for many years, teaching violin and piano to children of all ages and abilities. She also coaches ensembles and as an accompanist has given recitals and played for competitions. Ginny also plays violin with the Apollo Chamber Orchestra and the English Sinfonia. She is particularly interested in giving ensemble and performance opportunities to young people.
Naomi Faulkner is a Pastoral Assistant at St Paul’s Church. Naomi is ‘matron’ to the Hackney Children’s Choir and attends all rehearsals and courses, being attentive to the needs of the children and young people involved, and providing refreshments to keep the choir going!
Linda Green is a Pastoral Assistant at St Paul’s Church. Linda has helped look after the children’s choir since 2015, and leads craft activities with the before each rehearsal.
Helen Corcoran is a Pastoral Assistant at St Paul’s Church. Helen offers pastoral care to our children and young people, working alongside Naomi and Linda to offer a welcoming and nurturing environment.
Lucy is the administrator to Hackney Choral, and looks after child and parent liaison, as well as assisting with the welfare of our young people during rehearsals. Lucy has worked in schools, and has helped to deliver music outreach work with the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Barnaby is a musical assistant to Hackney Choral and has a range of teaching and choral experience, having worked in St Paul’s Cathedral School, and having been a chorister at Chichester Cathedral.
Elizabeth is a musical assistant to Hackney Choral and is about to take up Choral Conducting studies with Simon Halsey at the Birmingham Conservatoire.
Ted is a musical assistant to Hackney Choral, and has recently graduated with a degree in Music from Magdalen College, Oxford.
Choral Course Team
Alex is an organist and choral director who has worked with young people around the world. He has held positions at Marlborough College and Keble College, Oxford, and is now Director of Music at Christ’s Hospital School. Alex helps to direct the Hackney Choral Courses.
Sarah has many years of experience in running choral courses for young people, and has worked with hundreds of children who have attended Rodolfus Foundation choral courses. Sarah is Phase Leader at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Girls School, and is an active choral singer.
